Template Lookups, also known as Quick Lookups, allow you to search for information localized in one particular area of the system. Template Lookups display as the default when Lookups is selected from the Main Menu.
The Helpful Text at the top of the Lookups Application includes five steps. The first three steps, which are displayed for performing a lookup, are presented with their default settings in a field that contains a drop-down list of additional selections.
To perform a Template Lookup:
Choose a Template - When you choose your criteria from the template list, no further action is needed. If you select a template, then select additional attributes from the Lookups Page Tree, the selected template will be removed because the lookup is no longer using the pre-defined template. What templates are available?
Select Results Type - Selecting a value from this drop-down list identifies the format for the results of your lookup. For example, selecting the Entity Lookup List result type will cause the system to display the results of the query in the Entity Lookup Report List format. When selecting the results type, it is important to select a type that has an established relationship with the attributes selected for defining search criteria. If an appropriate relationship is not provided, the system will display an error indicating the nature of the mismatch. For example, using the Bio Entity template, enter the last name of an entity whose giving transactions you wish to see. Then, select the Giving Transaction Lookup List from the results type drop-down list. When you click Search, the system displays a message indicating "you must specify at least one search criterion for one of the following forms:" This message will be followed by a list of forms for entering criteria in order to view information using the Giving Transaction Lookup List. What result list types are available?
Select Output Type - The output type allows you to specify how you wish to output the results of the lookup. For example, you can export the results to a file for viewing or manipulation or you may wish to view on-screen. You are not limited to one output type, and you can, for example, view the results and output the results to a file, as well as copy to the Clipboard. This is accomplished through the display of some output types in an intermediate window, where you may select an additional output type if desired. What output types are available?
Optionally, add attributes to your Lookup by selecting additional lookup criteria from the Page Tree. Performing this task will add to your existing lookup criteria and the selected Template Lookup will be removed.
Enter criteria using the Template Lookup and click Search.
